20 year time capsule sealed in the Hub
A time capsule to celebrate 180 years of UCC was sealed today during a ceremony in the Hub Atrium. Capturing a snapshot of student life in 2025/26, the time capsule will remain sealed in the Hub to be opened on UCC's 200th anniversary.
UCC Students' Union worked together with the UCC 180th Anniversary Working Group to brng this project to life. The time capsule holds items including a personal note from the President, the first UCC Green Flag; a USB containing images of campus today and 180 years ago; and publications from some of our societies including award winners from UCCSU, Clubs and Societies. Attendees at the sealing ceremony were also invited to include a short personal note and photos.
The time capsule is a testament to the enduring spirit of UCC in 2026, a university grounded in sustainability, scholarship, innovation, inclusion and service to society. We hope that those who open it in in 20 years’ time will recognise not only the legacy we inherited, but also the responsibility we embraced to strengthen and sustain this institution for generations yet to come.
