The Impact of Advance HE’s Top Management Programme

Advance HE’s Top Management Programme (TMP) is a premier leadership development initiative tailored for senior executives within higher education institutions. The programme is designed to equip senior leaders with the agility, innovation and strategic insight necessary to navigate the complex and evolving landscape of higher education. It offers a dynamic, cohort-based learning environment that emphasizes peer collaboration, reflective practice and real-time application of leadership concepts.
Professor John O'Halloran MRIA recognises the positive impact that Advance HE's Top Management Programme has had on his leadership transformation. His journey reveals how structured reflection, international exposure and peer networks have created an enduring impact that continues to shape institutional culture at University College Cork.
When Professor O'Halloran, now President of University College Cork, first considered leadership roles he knew he needed more than just academic credentials. He needed perspective, self-awareness and a network of peers facing similar challenges. Advance HE’s Top Management Programme offered exactly that - and delivered far more than he anticipated.
Reflecting on his participation in the programme he says "As I began to see that I could potentially play a leadership role, I wanted to gain deeper insights about myself. My primary hope was that TMP would help me understand if leadership was something I would both enjoy and be able to contribute to in a meaningful way."
What he discovered through the programme was not just confirmation of his leadership potential, but a transformative experience that continues to influence his approach years later.
