Medal Success for UCC Students

It was with great pride that Professor John O’Halloran welcomed UCC students Joe Joe Sheehan and Aoife Flannery to the President’s Office on Tuesday, 25 March, to celebrate their recent achievements in winning medals at international sporting events.
UCC’s id+ Project promotes the rights of people with intellectual disabilities to attend third-level education and maximise their student experience.
Joe-Joe Sheehan is a student on the id+ Futures Certificate in Social Citizenship course in UCC. He has made a significant impact since joining Mallow United Special Olympics Club four years ago. With an impressive medal haul of four golds, three silvers, and two bronzes across regional and Ireland Games, Joe-Joe recently represented Ireland as part of the Irish Floorball Team at the recent Special Olympics Winter Games where he won a Bronze Medal and was also named ‘Man of the Match’ for the final game there.
Aoife Flannery is also a student on the id+ Certificate in Disability Inclusive Learning and is a graduate of the id+ Certificate in Social Citizenship. She is a member of the Owenabue Special Olympics artistic & rhythmic gymnastics team and recently travelled with the club to Oslo, Norway to compete in the International Friendship Gymnastics competition against gymnasts from 12 other countries where she won a gold medal.
