UCC moves up to 4th place in UI GreenMetric World University Rankings

University College Cork has moved up two places in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings which were announced today, and is now recognised as the fourth most sustainable university in the world. UCC continues to be ranked the most sustainable university campus in Ireland.
We are immensely proud to be the fourth university in the world for sustainability. This ranking assesses universities' environmental impact and sustainability efforts, based on categories such as carbon footprint reduction, research, and educational activities.
UCC, the first university globally to earn a Green Flag in 2010, recently became the first to achieve a fifth Green Flag, reflecting a 32% reduction in carbon emissions and a 40% decrease in waste. Through initiatives like banning single-use plastics, retrofitting buildings to move away from fossil fuels, and managing biodiversity-rich grounds, we actively prioritize sustainability. Additionally, our Living Laboratory Programme, globally leading sustainability research, and the Sustainability Academy foster innovative solutions, climate action, and SDG-aligned education for a more sustainable future.
