Visit from Minister Simon Harris to UCC

University College Cork welcomed Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris to campus on Monday 08 November.
Minister Harris was greeted on arrival by UCC President Professor John O’Halloran, who accompanied the Minister on a tour of:
The Calm Zone: The Calm Zone or An Ceantar Ciúin is located in the Old College Bar building and is a space designed to be a place of respite and calm for students, and in particular students on the autism spectrum.
The Hawthorn Garden: This garden forms part of the recently developed Calm Outdoor Spaces, along with the Boole Courtyard.
The Rainbow Walkway: The walkway marks UCC’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students and staff and symbolises the progress made at UCC since the first LGBT+ staff and students’ groups were established by the university in the 1980s.
UCC is committed to promoting inclusion and to meeting the needs of its student population.
Minister Harris later visited the President’s Office where he signed the Visitor’s Book and met with the President and representatives of the senior management team to discuss UCC's strategy, priorities and needs for the next period.
