Portuguese Film Cycle 2015-16
Manoel de Oliveira
Vida em Filme
The Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies is delighted to present another series of films in Spanish and Portuguese.
Screenings will take place on a weekly basis, every Wednesday at 6 pm in WW6. The films will showcase themes, directors and productions relevant to the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American contexts and, when necessary, will include subtitles.
The series starts (next) Wednesday, October 7th, with a Portuguese Film, Aniki-Bobó, Manoel de Oliveira´s first feature-length film, and will continue with a selection of films representative of the different stages of the director's extensive production.
Manoel de Oliveira passed away last April at the age of 106. Known as one of the longest living film directors, Oliveira should, perhaps, best be remembered for the impressive contribution and legacy to the film industry, in general, and to the Portuguese Cinema, in particular. This year´s Portuguese film series is a modest tribute to a great director.
This initiative is free of charge.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
