Postdoctoral Researchers and Industry Fellows
Dr. Mathieu Thabault
Dr. Mathieu Thabault earned his BSc with honours in Physiology and Neuroscience in 2017 and an MSc in Neuroscience, specializing in psychiatry and electrophysiology, in 2019—both from the University of Poitiers (France). He was awarded a competitive doctoral fellowship from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and completed his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Poitiers in 2022 under the supervision of Dr. Laurie Galvan, in the Laboratory of Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience (INSERM U1084). His doctoral research focused on behavioral and striatal alterations related to aging in mouse models of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). He subsequently held a one-year lectureship (2022–2023), where he continued his academic engagement in neuroscience and teaching.
In September 2023, Dr. Thabault joined APC Microbiome Ireland under the mentorship of Dr. Linda Katona and then joined the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in January 2025. He was awarded a prestigious MSCA INSPIRE Fellowship for his project StriaGutPhrenia, which investigates gut microbiome-prefrontal cortex-dorsal striatum interactions during conflicting goal-directed versus habitual learning—an approach relevant to understanding mechanisms underlying schizophrenia. His expertise spans electrophysiology, neuropsychiatry, behavioral neuroscience, and gut-brain axis research.
