Welcome Dr Maria Buckley

Dr Maria Buckley is welcomed to the Department by Professor Thomas Walther

Dr Maria Buckley joins the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics as a lecturer on the Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) Programme. Previously, she worked at the Department of Psychiatry and Neuro-behavioural Science & APC Microbiome Ireland. 

Dr Buckley received a BSc (Hons) in Physiology, UCC in 2005. She continued in the Department of Physiology with her doctoral studies in the laboratory of Professor Johns, and subsequently undertook a research assistant post in the Laboratory of Neurogastroenterology, in the APC Microbiome Institute, UCC, with Dr O’Malley. Maria returned to the Department of Physiology in 2012, firstly as an assistant lecturer, and then as a postdoctoral researcher.

Thereafter, Maria undertook postdoctoral research in the APC Microbiome Ireland and the Department of Physiology focusing on the measurement of vagal nerve activity in response to probiotics, before moving to the Department of Psychiatry and Neuro-behavioural Science & APC Microbiome Ireland as a Senior Postdoctoral researcher examining the psychology and biology of stress in informal dementia caregivers.
