Research and Education in Focus During Visit from NOVA Medical School Academics

20 Jun 2025

The Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics was delighted to host Professor Sofia Azeredo Pereira and Dr Luísa Teixeira-Santos from NOVA Medical School, Lisbon, for two engaging and well-attended seminars held on 16th and 18th June.

Prof. Pereira’s talk, "Research inspired by drug biotransformation", provided valuable insights into her translational research on cardiovascular and kidney diseases, drug metabolism, and biomarker discovery. Her work highlighted the potential of precision medicine tools and experimental pharmacology in tackling complex clinical challenges.

Dr Teixeira-Santos delivered an education-focused seminar entitled "What is essential in Pharmacokinetics for medical students? A multidisciplinary answer", in which she discussed core pharmacokinetics concepts in medical education. Drawing from international collaboration and her own teaching experience, the talk sparked thoughtful discussion on curriculum development and pharmacology teaching practice.

We thank both speakers for their stimulating contributions and look forward to future collaborations.
