Training FAQs

I am a new employee, what courses do I have to complete?


All new employees must complete the eLearning courses available.

They are as follows:

  • Workstation Ergonomics VDSE (VDU) course
  • Fire Safety Course
  • Hybrid Working

Depending on your role you may also need to complete further training courses online. A full list of training courses is available here.

Each staff member may complete these courses whilst seated at their own PC. Each course may be undertaken directly once the staff member has been enrolled for online training.  These courses must be undertaken every 3 years. Each employee will be notified via email to undertake the e-learning courses when 3 years is completed in UCC.

To be registered for online training, please contact us via the Helpdesk, ensuring the following information is included in your request:

  • Full Name
  • UCC Email Address
  • Department
  • Staff ID Number

Furthermore to the eLearning courses, each employee must complete Manual Handling training. On completion of this course, participants will be able to

  • List the key aspects of current Manual Handling Regulations.
  • Identify and know how to prevent manual handling injuries.
  • Understand the limitations and strengths of the human body in relation to lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying etc. and sedentary work activities
  • Lift and move objects safely.
  • Contribute to the development of a Departmental Safety Statement and Manual Handling Risk Assessments

Please note that each attendee is required to successfully complete a practical assessment (to be undertaken at the course)

Enterprise Risk Management will notify the employee via email of upcoming dates to the new employee with instructions for the course. Manual Handling training will be undertaken every 3 years by each employee.

Depending on the seniority of your position you may be required to attend further health and safety training. Department management will advise of the courses that need to be undertaken.



How do I register for eLearning courses?

To be registered for online training, please contact us via the Helpdesk, ensuring the following is included in your request:

  • Full Name
  • UCC Email Address
  • Department
  • Staff ID Number

We will reply once your account has been set up and training access is confirmed.

I am trying to log into the online system to complete my courses however I am getting a Single Sign-On User cannot be found error message.

When this message appears it means that you have not yet been registered on the online training site, or that your profile may have become archived. 

If you are receiving this error, please contact the Helpdesk for assistance.

I need to cancel my position on the course I am due to attend, what do I do?

Should you need to cancel your position on a course, please contact Enterprise Risk Management as soon as possible either via email, ext 2817 or via the Helpdesk.

Enterprise Risk Managment are required to be informed as soon as possible and up to 5 working days prior to the course date. The exception to this rule is for Occupational First Aider & Refresher courses, Enterprise Risk Management must be informed 13 working days before the course date.
