UCC neuroscientist awarded distinguished scientist prize
Professor John Cryan, Head of the Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience and Principal Investigator in the APC Microbiome Institute, will become the first UCC scientist to be awarded the Tom Connor Distinguished Investigator Award from Neuroscience Ireland later today (August 28).
Professor Cryan will be presented with the award at NUI Galway during Neuroscience Ireland's biennial meeting, which serves as a multidisciplinary forum for knowledge and expertise sharing, thereby facilitating excellence in neuroscience research in Ireland.

As Ireland’s National Neuroscience Society with a membership in the region of 200 scientists and clinicians, Neuroscience Ireland (NI) represents Ireland on the Governing Council of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS).
The Distinguished Investigator Award is presented every two years, alternating between an Irish or non-Irish based Neuroscientist. In 2013 it was renamed in honour of Professor Tom Connor, a previous President of the Society who passed away far too young that year.
Professor Cryan will deliver a Prize Lecture entitled 'A Gut Feeling About Stress'. On the award, he commented:“I am humbled to be recognised in such a manner by my peers. It is especially poignant and significant given that Tom Connor was a very good friend of mine and one of the most important neuroscientists this country produced."
A most deserved awardee @jfcryan and we are so delighted that your timely receipt coincided with #nsirl2017 @nuigalway where you met Tom. https://t.co/MPgORJDcvI
