2016 Press Releases
Who will be UCC’s entrepreneur of the year?
The Final of the UCC Entrepreneur of the Year takes place in the Boole Library Creative Zone at 4:30pm today (6th April).
A diverse range of emerging companies will compete for the coveted awards, including undergrad and postgrad students from Arts, Commerce, BIS, Cell Molecular Biology, Pharmacy, Bio-Medical and Tyndall National Institute.
The UCC Entrepreneur of the Year Awards nurture creativity and hone entrepreneurial skills by encouraging UCC students to express their entrepreneurial flair and develop novel ideas for a new business. The Awards are coordinated by the UCC Entrepreneurial and Social Society (E&S) and the University's Business School.
David Hardwicke, Auditor of the UCC Entrepreneurial and Social Society, said ‘the University Entrepreneur of the Year is a truly inclusive competition that will inspire UCC students to show what they are capable of and I wish to acknowledged the generous sponsorship of the Cork City & County Local Enterprise Offices, the College of Business and Law in UCC and Enterprise Ireland.’
Dr Brian O’Flaherty, Business School, UCC highlighted "the key role that a business-plan competition plays in UCC, as an entrepreneurial university" and noted that "many previous winners and participants, such as Rooties, Brendan Finucane (vConnecta) and Darren Hayes (DARE Technology) have developed their ideas and started companies, winning national competitions, as well as securing significant investment."
