British Ambassador to speak on EU at UCC event
The British Ambassador to Ireland, Dominick Chilcott, will speak on the UK’s EU policy and the forthcoming UK EU membership referendum at an event at University College Cork on Tuesday 24th November.
Dara Murphy, Minister of State at the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs with Special Responsibility for European Affairs, will also speak at the event.
The British government has committed to holding an ‘in/out’ referendum on EU membership by the end of 2017. The UK is now engaged in a process of seeking to re-negotiate its relationship with the EU ahead of that referendum. How these developments play out will have important implications for the UK, the EU, Ireland, the Anglo-Irish relationship and Northern Ireland.
At this event, Ambassador Chilcott will outline the UK’s re-negotiation strategy. Minister Dara Murphy and UCC academics will contribute to a panel discussion on the issues raised. The event will be chaired by UCC President Dr. Michael Murphy.
