Students promote Irish language

Lára Ní Dhálaigh, Onóir na Gaeilge,Timmy Ó Coileáin agus Stephen Breatnach, Gradam na Gaeilge agus Dr Diarmuid Ó Mathúna a bhronn an Gradam agus a thug urraíocht don Ghradam

Bronnadh Gradam na Gaeilge, ar bheirt scoláirí de chuid Choláiste na hOllscoile Corcaigh ar an 7 Bealtaine. 

Is iad Timmy Ó Coileáin agus Stephen Breatnach a bhain an Gradam amach i mbliana.  Bronnadh Onóir na Gaeilge ar Lára Ní Dhálaigh leis.  Tá an duais urraithe ag an Dr Diarmuid Ó Mathúna, Stiúrthóir Chomhairleoirí Maoine ‘City Life’.  Mheas na moltóirí gur chóir an duais a roinnt de bharr chumas an triúr.  Dhein na mic léinn an-obair i gcaitheamh na bliana maidir leis an nGaeilge a chur chun cinn i dtimpeallacht na hOllscoile.  Ba é an Dr Diarmuid Ó Mathúna a dhein an bronnadh ag ócáid speisialta a eagraíodh sa tSeomra Caidrimh.

Bhronn an Dr Fiachra Long, Roinn an Oideachais, scoláireachtaí ar áitritheoirí an Ionaid Chónaithe, Áras Uí Thuama ag an ócáid chéanna.

Reáchtáladh an Gradam faoi choimirce Choiste Gnó Bhord na Gaeilge, COC.  Ba iad an Dr Caoimhín Ó Muirigh (Roinn na Sean-agus Meán-Ghaeilge), Ruth Ní Riada (Aontas na Mac Léinn/Coiste Gnó Bhord na Gaeilge) agus Claire Ní Mhuirthile (Ionad na Gaeilge Labhartha) a bhí mar mholtóirí.

 

Timmy Ó Coileáin and Stephen Breatnach are the joint recipients of Gradam na Gaeilge 2014.  Lára Ní Dhálaigh was also presented with Onóir na Gaeilge.  These UCC students were awarded the Gradam in recognition of their work in promoting the Irish Language within UCC.  The students are members of the Irish Language Society, An Chuallacht.  The Gradam was arranged through the auspices of the business committee of Bord na Gaeilge, UCC and was sponsored by Dr Diarmuid Ó Mathúna, Director of City Life Wealth Advisors, Cork. The award was presented by Dr Diarmuid Ó Mathúna, at a special occasion in the Seomra Caidrimh on 7th May.

Claire Ní Mhuirthile, Ionad na Gaeilge Labhartha, Dr Caoimhín Ó Muirigh, Roinn na Sean-agus Meán-Ghaeilge and Ruth Ní Riada, Aontas na Mac Léinn/Coiste Gnó Bhord na Gaeilge, were the adjudicators.

At the award ceremony, Dr Fiachra Long, Roinn an Oideachais also presented scholarships to the residents of the Irish Language residential centre, Áras Uí Thuama, Brú na hOllscoile.
