UCC Chemist honoured

Professor Martyn Pemble of UCC Chemistry and the Tyndall National Institute is the first recipient of the Irish Gold Medal from the Institute of Materials Finishing.
Professor Pemble received the award for his ‘Outstanding Contribution to Surface Engineering in Ireland.’
The medal is the highest accolade given by the Institute of Materials Finishing http://www.materialsfinishing.org/ and is presented from time to time for outstanding personal, scientific or technical achievement relevant to the objectives of the Institute which is concerned with the development of advanced coating technologies and surface treatments of high technological and commercial significance.
The medal was presented to Professor Pemble by the President of the Institute, Dr Paul Lansdell FIMF, at a Workshop on ‘The Controlled Modification of Surfaces at the Nano-scale’ recently. During the ceremony reference was made to Professor Pemble’s achievements in the areas of atomic layer deposition, chemical vapour deposition and surface chemistry together with his extensive entrepreneurial and organisational activities.
