Student contribution to be recognised at UCC Works Awards

19 Mar 2013

A new student internship programme, UCC Works was launched last October and over 200 students have participated to date. An awards ceremony today celebrates their significant contribution.

The UCC Works Internship programme is a period of unpaid work experience in a UCC campus organisation or department. The purpose of the initiative is to give students valuable work experience and to receive formal recognition for the learning acquired from same. This UCC initiative supports students in their professional and personal development whilst at the same time encouraging them to actively support and participate in the UCC community.

The 200 participating students gained work experience in areas such as the Glucksman Gallery, UCC 98.3Fm, student publications Motley and the UCC Express, as well as the Granary Theatre, Chaplaincy, the Student Health Department, the Careers Service, the Department of Government and the Students’ Union amongst others.

Reflecting on a successful first year, Seamus McEvoy, Head of the Careers Service, UCC comments: “Students found the internship programme to be of enormous benefit as it gave them an insight into the workplace, helped them develop transferable skills required by graduate recruiters and will help students become more confident when applying for jobs and attending interviews.”

All are very welcome to attend the ceremony in the Staff Dining Room at 4.30pm on Tuesday 19 March 2013. Refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP via uccworks@ucc.ie
