UCC welcomed the new Indian Ambassador to Ireland recently, Her Excellency, Smt. Radhika Lal Lokesh.

The Ambassador was greeted by Dr Michael Murphy, President of UCC, Trevor Holmes, Vice-President for External Relations, Dr Christopher Shepard, International Coordinator & Vice-Chair, India Strategy Group and Professor Brian Bocking, Head of School of Asian Studies, UCC. The courtesy visit also included a welcome reception in the Aula Maxima for Indian students attending UCC.

The Ambassador was also the chief guest at a networking event (Monday 21 October) organised by the Irish India Business Association (IIBA) Cork Chapter in association with UCC and the Tyndall National Institute.

The theme of the event was Information and Communications Technology and was the second to be organised by the Cork Chapter of the IIBA, since its inauguration earlier this year.

It formed part of an ongoing series of networking opportunities and information seminars aiming to enable those with an interest in doing business in India to meet both potential partners and learn from those who have already successfully entered this fast-growing and very dynamic market.

The event also showcased the different research activities in Tyndall as well as how Tyndall/UCC can generate value for industry through research collaboration. The event was hosted by Dr Kieran Drain, CEO, Tyndall National Institute.

According to Mike Murphy, PRO of the Cork chapter of the IIBA, “We were delighted to welcome the new Indian ambassador to Ireland, Her Excellency Smt. Radhika Lal Lokesh, who launched this event and gave the keynote address.”

“We are also very pleased that UCC is the first Irish university to be visited by the new Ambassador, and we feel this reflects the very strong research partnerships developed by UCC with India in the past few years, and the growing numbers of Indian students choosing to study in UCC, apart from UCC’s very significant historical links with the Indian sub-continent.”
