UCC Law Department hosts a seminar on European Union Law in Practice today. One of the expert speakers is Judge Anthony M Collins of the General Court of the European Union.

European Union Law impacts directly on many areas of legal practice including employment law, family law, immigration and EU citizenship law, competition law and consumer law.

The seminar, which is funded by the Communicating Europe programme run by the Department of An Taoiseach, will provide an overview of the impact of EU law in practice, followed by a more detailed examination of particular aspects of EU law and how they interact with Irish law.

Among the speakers is Irish Judge Anthony M Collins, recently nominated as a judge at the General Court of the European Union in Luxembourg. Judge Collins was sworn in as a judge in September and this is his first public address since his appointment. He will be speaking about “Recent Irish Experiences in Accessing Justice in Luxembourg.”

The seminar will be opened by Declan Walsh of the Faculty of Law UCC and will also feature Dr Vincent Power, Head of EU & Competition Law at A&L Goodbody Solicitors in Dublin and Adjunct Professor of Law at UCC, who will be speaking on recent developments in the area of EU Competition law and EU law generally.

This seminar is one of a number of events in the area of European Union law that are held annually at the Faculty of Law. The Faculty has a strong tradition of research and teaching in European Union law and is delighted to be hosting Judge Collins on the occasion of his first public address since his appointment to the General Court.

The seminar will take place from 5.00pm to 7.00pm in Boole 4 Lecture Theatre and admission is free. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register their interest at lawevents@ucc.ie
