Croatian Ambassador visits UCC

The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, Ms Jasna Ognjanovac, was welcomed to UCC by Dr Michael Murphy, President of UCC on Tuesday 2nd July.

The visit, which is Ambassador Ognjanovac’s first to the region, comes as part of an extended tour of Cork.

Jasna Ognjanovac took up her appointment as Croatian Ambassador to Ireland in April 2011, following a distinguished career in the Croatian Foreign Service. She was previously Deputy Head of the Mission of Croatia to the European Union in Brussels, from 2004 to 2011. Prior to this she was Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations in New York, from 2001 to 2004, and Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Croatia to the United Nations in Vienna, from 1995 to 1999.

Ambassador Ognjanovac is a career diplomat with vast experience in multilateral diplomacy. During the past two decades, she represented Croatia as Secretary of the Stabilization and Association Council between the European Union and Croatia, on the Croatian side, in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. She was the Vice Chair of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of the United Nations General Assembly, in 2003, and the Facilitator for the Ministerial Declaration on the annual session of ECOSOC during the Croatian Presidency of ECOSOC, in 2000. She formed part of numerous Croatian negotiating teams at both the United Nations and European Union levels.

Ms Ognjanovac also held a number of positions in Zagreb, including Head of the United Nations Department, from 1999 to 2001, as well as from 1993 to 1995. She has been a Visiting Lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

Ms Ognjanovac completed both a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Law at the University of Zagreb, and a Master of Law and International Relations at the Vienna Diplomatic Academy. She is fluent in English, German, Italian and French.
