Conor Cusack to speak on depression

18 Nov 2013

Former Cork hurler Conor Cusack is to speak on depression tonight (Monday 18 November) in Boole 4 at 8pm. A live stream can be viewed by clicking here from c.8pm

Seating is very limited and strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. Jointly organised by the UCC Students’ Union (SU), Clubs Executive and Societies Guild, the talk entitled ‘A journey with my freedom friend’, is open to members of the public and students and staff of UCC. The sports star courageously spoke out on his battle with depression recently, following a blog post he wrote, in what was ultimately a message of hope that resonated around Ireland and further afield.

UCC SU Welfare Officer David Berry will open proceedings at 8pm, and will briefly teach the audience to use a number of simple mindfulness tools in their daily lives to promote positive health. Denise McCarthy, vice president for welfare in the Union of Students of Ireland, will also contribute to the discussion.

Counselling services for students affected by this discussion are available here.
