UCC Helps Alumni Settle into London

Over 200 graduates attended the first function in King College London and it is intended that the association will provide a social and professional network for UCC graduates moving to the city.
“The night was a huge success, highlighting not only the need for such events but also the demand. It was an opportunity to get a large mix of past students together and all ages and professions were well represented. There are plans for more social events with a distinct ‘UCC flavour’ over the coming year, and also professional networking events”, said Jonathan Irwin, Chair, UCC Alumni: London.
Due to high demand a larger venue had to be found a few days before the launch. Appropriately, the event was held on campus at King’s College London which contributed to the feeling of nostalgia on the night.
“A significant number of UCC graduates are currently living and working in London. UCC Alumni: London is a new association which has been established to provide a professional and social network for the UCC community there. Hundreds of UCC alumni attended Thursday’s launch event at King’s College London where graduates had an opportunity to meet old friends, make new contacts and reminisce about University days”, said Karen Kelly, Development Manager at University College Cork who travelled to London for the event. UCC is keen to maintain relationships with its alumni and build networks for graduates to connect with each other when overseas. The London group is one of the first of such groups and the success of the London launch event augurs well for similar groups around the world.
The next UCC Alumni: London event will be held on July 21st, 2012 when the new group will partner with the UCC Diaspora Football Club to host a boat cruise on the Thames. Tickets are on sale via www.uccdiaspora.com.
