Top comedian Des Bishop will return to his alma mater, UCC, on Thursday 6 December, to perform a free charity gig for students.

The gig, which takes place at noon in Devere Hall (Student Centre), is organised by the Disability Support Service (DSS) at UCC. Mairead O’ Sullivan, Deputy Head of the DSS, says: “We’d like to thank Des for taking time out of his busy schedule. The gig reflects his long-standing commitment to the promotion of positive mental health.”

Karen McNulty, lecturer in Occupational Therapy at UCC, member of the Disability Awareness Week committee, and comedian, will act as MC at the gig.

Speaking ahead of the event, Dr McNulty says: “Disability is more about highlighting abilities than disabilities, and potential rather than limitations. Having Des Bishop here at UCC for this event highlights that having a bit of craic can sometimes be therapeutic when facing challenges in life, whether those be physical, mental, or just what life throws at all of us.”

Admission is free but donations will be welcome with all proceeds going to charity. Tickets are very limited, and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis (Student/Staff ID required) from the Disability Support Service at 8.30 am on Thursday 29 November. Doors open at 11.30am on Thursday 6 December, with the gig beginning at noon.
