University Staff Recognition Awards Programme 2011

At the second Annual University Staff Recognition Awards Ceremony on October 13th 2011, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy, presented awards to seven staff of the University, recognising their outstanding achievement and contributions towards realising the vision and goals of UCC. The University Staff Recognition Awards Programme acknowledges staff for individual or team accomplishments and provides a forum to publicly acknowledge their achievements to the University and the wider community. 

 

  The seven recipients were chosen from a total of over 30 nominees for Awards across the following categories:

The successful awardees are:

1.      Ms Emma Connolly - Rising Star Award (International Education Office)
Ms Connolly’s
achievements and activities in the area of international student recruitment were highly commendable.

2.     Dr Harry Gijbels and Ms Lydia Sapouna - Exceptional Citizen Award   (School of Nursing and Midwifery & School of Applied Social Studies respectively)
T
heir work in relation to the development of the ‘Critical Voices Network’ ( a coalition, supporting a more democratic, person-centred mental health system) offers an exceptional service to the citizens of the wider community and contributes to enhancing the quality of life of many people who have traditionally been ‘silenced’.

3.     Prof Alan Kelly - Leadership Award   (Dean of Graduate Studies)
As
Dean of Graduate Studies, Prof Kelly has proven outstanding in successfully leading the changes that are currently taking place in the area of postgraduate education at an institutional, national and international level.

4.     Dr Caitriona Ni Laoire - Leadership Award   (Institute for Social Sciences in the 21st Century)
Dr Ni
Laoire demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in her contributions to creating and delivering a new vision for Social Science in UCC.

5.     Dr Seán Cian Ó Mathúna - Leadership Award   (Tyndall National Institute)
Dr Ó Mathúna
developed and articulated a vision for research challenges in the PowerSoc space and for resulting business opportunities.

6.     Dr Margaret O’Rourke – Enhancing the Student Experience   (School of Medicine)
Dr O’Rourke
demonstrated outstanding skills in the development of novel Programmes (including LIFEMATTERS Uni-V and SAFEMED) that provide inspiration and innovation in enhancing the student experience in UCC
