UCC to support pharmacy education in Egypt

President Dr Michael Murphy and Dr Brendan Griffin, School of Pharmacy, UCC visited Cairo to support initiatives to enhance pharmacy education in Egypt.  The School of Pharmacy, UCC has hosted a number of doctoral students from Egypt in recent years.  Professor Kamal Sabra, Adjunct Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the school has identified opportunities to develop and expand the professional training of clinical pharmacists in the Egyptian hospital system.  He has also engaged extensively with executives of Egyptian pharmaceutical industries to enhance the quality of training and standards in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and promoting their adoption of the UCC Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems.

 

Dr Murphy and Dr Griffin visited Future University in Egypt, Cairo, to meet with the President, university leadership and senior faculty of the School of Pharmacy to explore co-operation between our two institutions.  Ms Isolde Moylan, Irish Ambassador to Egypt, hosted a dinner at which leaders of the Egyptian Higher Committee of Medical Specialities, representatives of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry and members of the academic staff of a number of Cairo universities participated.

The UCC President met with the Egyptian Minister for Health, Professor Amr Mohamed Helmy and senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Population where a co-operation agreement was signed between UCC and the Ministry to develop the programme for clinical pharmacists.
