UCC launches new MBS Asian Business Programme
21.03.2011

An exciting new departure in Irish education was launched today (Monday, March 21st 2011) at UCC giving students an unprecedented opportunity to become a success in business in the world’s most dynamic region. The MBS Asian Business is a one-year full-time programme awarded by UCC and delivered in partnership with Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and the Farmleigh Fellowship.

This ground-breaking academic programme combines study at UCC and Nanyang Business School which is consistently placed at the top of world and Asian rankings with a work-study scholarship programme involving Ireland’s leading companies.

Students spend three months in Ireland at UCC and the remainder of the year in Asia. This involves intensive study at NTU and 16 weeks working with leading Irish companies and organisations in various locations across Asia.

Speaking at the launch of the MBS Asian Business, UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy described it is a unique opportunity for the 23 students enrolled: “There can be no doubt of the importance of Asia and this new programme provides the chance to enter at the very highest levels, with Irish companies who have been hugely successful in the region and is exactly what is needed to help us out of our current economic difficulties,” he said.

The Farmleigh Fellowship is a not for profit organisation based in Singapore which aims to develop a critical mass of highly skilled professionals with a profound understanding and first-hand experience of business in Asia and who will spearhead greater business engagement between Ireland and the Asian region.

This pilot programme is co-funded by a partnership between the Irish Government and industry and supported by IBEC. The idea for the programme originated at the Global Irish Economic Forum held at Farmleigh in September 2009.

The scholarship covers the cost of tuition at UCC and NTU, return flights to Singapore, international health insurance and visas.
