16.03.2011

Professor Paul Giller, UCC Registrar and Senior Vice President, UCC, is in China this week, to further working relationships with existing strategic partner universities. He leads a team of staff from three Colleges and the International Education Office. The opportunity to foster development with potential new partners is also being pursued. UCC already has a number of successful joint degree programmes in engineering, economics, food science and computer science.

UCC participated in the Study in Ireland exhibition providing information to those interested in educational opportunities in Ireland.  The exhibition was part of the overall Féile Shanghai festival, organised by the resident Irish community in Shanghai.  The Lord Mayor of Cork, Michael O’ Connell, and his wife Catherine, travelling with the Cork Chamber and City Council to Cork’s twin city, attended the event.  Shanghai University President invited the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to campus, where they met UCC students who are currently studying there, highlighting the importance of the Cork/Shanghai and UCC links.

St. Patrick’s Day focuses a spotlight on Ireland.  UCC will take advantage of this and the Irish reputation for hospitality to invite the Presidents of the key partners of Beijing Technology and Business University, Beijing Information Science and Technology University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Guilin University of Electronic Technology and Henan University of Economic and Law to join in the St. Patrick’s Day Ball celebrations in Beijing.  The event will be hosted by Irish Ambassador, Declan Kelleher.
