UCC, in partnership with the Rowing Ireland High Performance Programme, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ed Green to the position of Rowing Development Officer at UCC. Ed comes to Cork from Molesey Boat Club in the UK and brings his many years of experience in developing crews of all standards and age groups to head up development of the sport at UCC.
Ed has coached athletes to the highest levels of the sport including the UK Sporting Giants programme and has coached medal-winning crews at Coupe de la Jeunesse and athletes which have represented Great Britain at the Junior World Championships.

Acting Director of Sport and Recreation, Ms Christine O’Donovan, hailed the appointment of Mr Green commenting that “Ed will join the growing team of development officers and staff already in place at the university.” Mr Green’s appointment comes at a time of great expansion of facilities at the Mardyke and serves to further reinforce UCC’s commitment to excellence in sport. “Rowing has been one of our highest performing sports at UCC and bringing Ed’s knowledge and experience to Cork will help build the club and county’s successes into the future” Ms O’Donovan also added.

As well as building the university rowing structure Ed will also be involved in identifying talented individuals in the Cork area for Rowing Irelands High Performance Programme. Working with Rowing Ireland’s national team coaches based at the nearby National

Rowing Centre in Farran Wood, Ed will assist in the identification and support of a very small number of athletes from the Cork area who have the potential to be Olympic champions. Athletes from secondary schools and third level institutions who have the potential to succeed are eligible for inclusion on this very specialised programme.
