Placement Programme in Developing Countries
13.04.2011

Third year BSc International Development and Food Policy students recently embarked on their six month work placements. In all, 36 students are taking up work placements, with 31 students spending all or part of their time in a developing country. This is the fourth year that the Department of Food Business and Development has co-ordinated this placement programme.

Countries of assignment include Colombia, Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Palestine, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Zambia, the US and Ireland.  Work themes include children’s rights, agriculture and food security, conservation and natural resource management, microfinance and human rights. The demand by organisations for students was high again this year with some organisations hosting students for the fourth year in a row.  The placement programme has again this year been partially funded by Irish Aid, but students also cover some of their own costs.
