Well Done
02.04.2009

Congratulations to Julie O’Donovan, this year’s winner of the UCC Science for All Postgraduate Student Public Presentation Competition, in which young scientists have to explain themselves “without the jargon” to a live audience.

Last year, Suzanne Mc Endoo represented UCC and went on to win the Intervarsity ScienceSpeak competition at the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin. Julie, from the Department of Mathematics, will be an equally worthy UCC representative when the 2009 competition gets underway at the RDS on April 27th next.
The competitors, together with a large audience, gathered in Boole 4 on Wednesday night last to hear lively presentations ranging from the mysteries of Black Holes through a possible cure for Crohn’s disease to Julie’s topic, Brownian Motion. This mathematical concept was skilfully and adroitly explained by the young mathematician who exuded confidence in and flair for her subject. Now for the RDS!
