“Making Thriving a Reality: Towards and Beyond Mental Health Recovery”

A two-day Conference on Mental Health Recovery will take place on November 4th and 5th in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC between 9.15am and 5pm each day.
The Conference will provide an opportunity to learn about, debate and discuss diverse and innovative ways to and beyond mental health recovery. It is organised by The Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery and The School of Applied Social Studies at UCC.   

There will be two keynote speakers each day followed by a series of concurrent workshops, some of which will run on both days.

The keynote speakers on Wednesday (4th) are Dr Michael Corry (Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist) whose address is titled “Liberation Psychology: Happiness is an Inside Job” and Dr David Pilgrim (Sociologist, University of Central Lancashire) whose address is titled “The Role of Recovery in Modern Mental Health Policy.”

On Thursday (5th) the keynote speakers are Ciaran O’Connell (Counsellor, Swan Treatment Centre, Dublin) - “Discovering the Truth about my Addiction” followed by Richard Lakeman (Lecturer, Dublin City University) – “What Health Professionals Need to do to Help People in Mental Health Recovery: Consensus from Experts by Experience.”

A further 24 contributors from Ireland and the UK, many with inside experience of the psychiatric system, will host the workshops.

The Conference is open to all though, for space reasons, numbers are limited. There is no admission charge.

The organisers wish to acknowledge the contribution of Asylum Associates (UK) and MindFreedom Ireland to the organisation of the conference.
