International Olympiad Bronze Medal for UCC student

UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy today (October 22nd 2009) hosted a reception for Electrical Engineering Student, David McCarthy. David, a former pupil of CBS Midleton, won the bronze medal in this year’s International Olympiad on Informatics, which was held in Bulgaria.

UCC President, Dr Michael Murphy today (October 22nd 2009) hosted a reception for Electrical Engineering Student, David McCarthy. David, a former pupil of CBS Midleton, won the bronze medal in this year’s International Olympiad on Informatics, which was held in Bulgaria.
David won the national programming competition several times as well as the Young Irish Scientist. Another important achievement is David’s participation in the International Olympiad on Mathematics for the last two years.
David attended in the Munster Programme Training (MPT) Outreach Programme for two years studying computer programming, algorithms and data structures. The MPT Outreach is a programme organised by UCC’s Department of Computer Science for secondary school students from the Munster area. The aim of the programme is to offer to students a special training in ICT topics that are not included in the school curriculum. These topics include computer programming, web design and video production.
