International Honour for UCC Geology Student

UCC Geology student, Dave McCarthy has been invited to represent Ireland at the Planet Earth Lisbon Event 2009 “Planet Earth, Present for the Future”, taking place in Lisbon from November 19th-22nd.

UCC Geology student, Dave McCarthy has been invited to represent Ireland at the Planet Earth Lisbon Event 2009 “Planet Earth, Present for the Future”, taking place in Lisbon from November 19th-22nd.
Dave was the recipient of the 2009 Cunningham Award from the Geological Survey of Ireland for the best BSc Honours Geology Project in an Irish university.
The event in Lisbon has been organised to celebrate the end of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE) Triennium, which has been staged from 2007-2009. The aim of this global event is to review the results of the IYPE operations and to highlight future initiatives that rest on the IYPE’s legacy. The Planet Earth Lisbon Event 2009 aims to bring together scientists, politicians and captains of industry on three main themes related to sustainable development: Renewable Energy; Sustainable Land & Water Management and Oceans.
World-class keynote speakers, such as Aubrey Manning, will present their views on these themes and the role that the Earth Sciences could and should play in advancing them.
