International Dairy Science Award for UCC Academic

Professor Alan Kelly, Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, and Dean of Graduate Studies of UCC has been awarded the Danisco International Dairy Science Award.
The presentation ceremony took place on July 14th 2009 during the annual meeting of American Dairy Science Association, held this year in Montreal, Canada.
 
This prestigious award recognises outstanding accomplishments in research and development outside of the USA and Canada in chemistry, microbiology, technology, or engineering pertaining to the dairy industry, and the award citation specifically recognised his contributions in the areas of milk enzymology and high-pressure processing of dairy products.  As part of the award ceremonies, Professor Kelly delivered a keynote address titled “From the udder to the fridge: the impact of milk proteins and enzymes through the dairy chain”.  
Dairy science researchers at UCC have a proud history of winning this major international award, with previous recipients being Professors Patrick Fox (1987), Charlie Daly (1994) and Paul McSweeney (2005).
