Horgan Papers donated to UCC Library
15.09.2009

Professor John Horgan, Press Ombudsman, has donated material relating to his grandfather, the Cork businessman John J. Horgan to UCC Library, marking the occasion of the republication of his grandfather’s book Parnell to Pearse.

Professor Horgan contributed a short biographical essay on his grandfather as a foreword to the book, and it is the research material he gathered while writing this brief biography which he has now donated. On receiving the donation Séamus McMahon, Deputy Librarian, thanked Professor Horgan and remarked on the long association between UCC and members of the extended Horgan family. Known locally as ‘Coroner Horgan’, he was the recipient of a Law degree and Honorary LLD from UCC, and in 1880 nominated Charles Stuart Parnell for a Cork seat, acting subsequently as his agent.

The papers will be listed by the Library Archives service prior to being made accessible for research.
