Fair Play Award for UCC Golf Club
16.12.2009

UCC Golf Club was presented with the Enno Harms Fair Play award by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) at their recent General Assembly in Vienna.
UCC participated in the first European University Golf Championships in Portugal and were awarded the team nett prize during the competition only to establish after checking the scores that they hadn't finished in first place. The event organisers were informed and a presentation was made to the University of Ulster.

EUSA was suitably impressed at the honesty and true spirit of fair play shown and felt it appropriate to award the club with the honour which spans across all EUSA’s activities in Europe.

This follows the Fair Play Award made by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to the Irish Women's Soccer Team at the recent Summer Universiade in Belgrade in respect of their participation at the event, where they finished top of the Fair Play standings in Women's Football.

Enno Harms was a past president of EUSA, a 62 year old German who was Director of the Department of University Sport at the University of Hanover. He had been actively involved in the promotion of University Sport for over 40 years. He died in August 2009 after a long illness.

The European University Golf Championships in Portugal attracted 69 participants from 14 universities with the Irish student golfers taking gold, silver and bronze medals.
