The objective of the event is to raise further awareness across campus of the environmental research being carried out at UCC and to continue to promote inter-disciplinary research collaboration in this area.  The conference will see a cross-section of the research presented across the Institute’s five thematic areas. The presentations are organised around four key environmental themes:

• Sustainable Energy & Energy Efficiency
• The Marine Environment
• Environmental Monitoring and Technologies
• Anthropogenic activities and the Environment

All UCC staff and students are invited to attend this free event and there is no need to register.  The presentations at the conference reflect the many scientific disciplines involved in environmental science in UCC and the talks will be sufficiently broad-based to be of interest to a wide range of researchers and students. The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) at University College Cork was established in 2000 to support environmental research and post-graduate education at UCC. The Institute has over 150 researchers with a similar number of research projects and integrates environmental research from 11 cognate departments and four centres of excellence into one institute thereby facilitating a critical collaborative approach to a subject area that straddles many different disciplines.  The interdisciplinary research environment at the ERI enables researchers to work together in large, multi-skilled teams that draw on each discipline’s core competences to address scientific questions of environmental relevance in a synergistic manner.
