John de Chastelain to lecture at UCC

General (retired) John de Chastelain will today Monday (December 3rd 2007) present a lecture to the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights (CCJHR), Faculty of Law, UCC on "Decommissioning and the Northern Ireland Peace Process: 1994-2007."
The lecture will take place in Room G04, Brookfield Health Sciences Building at 5pm. Tea and coffee will be available from 4.45pm.

John de Chastelain is a retired General of the Canadian army. In 1993 he was appointed Canadian ambassador to the United States and in 1994 he became the Chief of Defence Staff. From November 1995 to January 1996 he was a member of the International Body on arms decommissioning in Northern Ireland. From June 1996 to April 1998 he was one of three International Chairmen involved in the Northern Ireland peace talks, which led to the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement of 10 April 1998. Since September 1997 he has been Chairman of the Independent International Commission on Decommissioning in Northern Ireland.
