As We See It: Pupils of St Patrick's Girls School Learn to See
Tomorrow Wednesday, June 20th 2007 sees the culmination of a nine-month
collaboration between the Lewis Glucksman Gallery and a 5th class from
St Patrick's Girls National School, Cork. The fifteen 5th class pupils,
under the guidance of their teacher Colette Curran, participated in
artist-led workshops and visited numerous exhibitions in the Glucksman
throughout the school year. The project, which was designed to raise
visual and aesthetic awareness among participants and to stimulate an
interest in the visual arts, was based on the Glucksman's Art of
Looking resource pack, launched last September. The project was devised
by Nora Hickey, Curator and Education + Collections in the Glucksman
and was made possible by generous funding from Cork City Council.
The pupils worked with artists John Halpin, Sandra Minchin, Roseanne
Lynch, Cian McConn and Susanne Leutenegger over the school year.
Tomorrow, the pupils will display their own artists' books, visual
diaries documenting the year, alongside work produced through
collaboration with the artists. This work includes a DVD produced in a
workshop with video and performance artist Cian McConn and a digital
photomontage created with John Halpin.
