UCC marks the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome
The signing of the Treaty of Rome in 1957 which gave birth to the
European Economic Community will be marked with a series of events at
UCC on Europe Day (Wednesday, 9 May 2007). Hosted by UCC's
Department of Government, the events which range from musical to
artistic will be held throughout the day at the university.
Mr Pat Cox, President of the International European Movement will
deliver the keynote address "Reflections and Perspectives on the 50th
Anniversary of the Signing of the Treaty of Rome" at 2.30pm in the
Lewis Glucksman Gallery, UCC. This will be followed by the launch
at 5pm of the Irish Examiner Photographic Exhibition "The European
Union: Fifty Years a Growing" in the O'Rahilly Building, Block B, Floor
2.
The Honan Chapel will be the venue for the final event of the day with
a performance by UCC Student Choral Society "Harmony in Diversity:
Celebrating Europe's Musical Traditions" at 8pm.
Members of the public are invited to attend and admission to all events
