CELTFEST '07 at UCC, 5-8 March
Celtfest is an annual week-long celebration of Celtic art, music and
song, dance, language and culture. The festival takes place this year
from 5-8 March at Áras na Mac Léinn (The Student Centre), UCC and
coincides with Seachtain Na Gaeilge.
Each year, a different Celtic country is chosen as the theme for the
festival. In the past invited artists and musicians from various Celtic
countries such as Galicia, Brittany, Wales and Scotland have performed
at the festival.
The festival creates a wonderful atmosphere and draws large numbers to
the varied programme of events that take place during the week. Now in
its ninth year, Celtfest is the most ambitious and longest running
festival organised by Áras na Mac Léinn.
This year, Ireland has been chosen for the theme. Among the acts
is one of Ireland's foremost Traditional bands, KÍLA, who will
headline this year's festival with a concert in Devere Hall on
Thursday, 8 March at 8pm. KÍLA are renowned for their style of
music - where traditional Irish music meets electronic dance in a
glorious fusion of high energy rythms - and for their use of the Irish
language in their compositions.
Tickets for this event are €12 and are available at the Student Centre
Information Desk. Other acts include John Spillane, Liam Byrne - A
Tribute to Christy Moore and Pat Fitz - The Human Jukebox as well as
traditional Irish music sessions with some of Cork's finest musicians.
Events are free of charge unless otherwise stated.
