The Search for Ireland's Giant Turtles - BBC Documentary, 18 February
A team of scientists from University College Cork (UCC) and University
of Wales, Swansea will feature in a documentary on BBC 2 on Sunday, 18
February. The programme will show how scientists Dr Tom Doyle
from UCC and Dr Jon Houghton from the University of Wales attempt to
track a leatherback turtle in order to find out more about these
endangered creatures who wander the world's oceans and gather around
the Dingle Peninsula each summer.
With so few sighted each summer, can the team defy the odds and catch
one? This is the incredible story of their search to find a leatherback
turtle off the coast of Ireland, their close collaboration with the
salmon fishing community of Chorca Dhuibhne, and one summer spent among
the extraordinary wildlife (eg Fungi and other bottlenose dolphins, a
humpback whale, jellyfish and sunfish) of these seas.
The documentary will be shown BBC 2, Sunday, 18 February, 5.50-6.20pm.
