IBEC presents Export Orientation Programme (EOP) to UCC language students
Ms Siobhán Golden of EOP will present the organization's IBEC
Export Orientation Programme to students in UCC on Wednesday, 24
January. The presentation will take place at 5.30 pm in the MBA Room,
O'Rahilly Building (2.55).
The EOP, which is now in its 24th year, is Ireland's only Graduate
Placement Programme accredited at MSc level. The scheme is open
to graduates of all disciplines and is of particular interest to
language graduates. Previous participants include holders of UCC
degrees, such as the BA in Language and Cultural Studies, the BA in
European Studies and the BComm (European) degrees (now renamed BComm
(International)).
IBEC & EOP believes that the further development of language skills
and their prioritisation within the education system should be part of
a national policy to underpin future economic prosperity. In a survey
on 'Language Use in Business' conducted by the employers' organization
in 2001, the European Year of Languages, 50% of the respondents
considered that extra foreign language capacity would benefit their
company.
In response to EOP's call to encourage a greater use and promotion of
foreign languages as an important tool in achieving the expansion and
diversification of exports, the organizer of the presentation, Dr Mark
Chu of the Department of Italian, UCC, said that the language
departments at UCC are committed to producing highly qualified
graduates with excellent language and analytical skills, and to working
to bring graduates and employers together.
The presentation will be followed by a questions and answers session.
