AONTAS Festival - "Celebrating Lifelong Learning in UCC"
UCC and the Centre for Adult Continuing Education at UCC are proud
to host a series of events to mark the AONTAS lifelong learning
national festival which runs in Ireland from 22-26 January 2007. The
theme of the Festival is 'Equal Learning Opportunities for All'. AONTAS
is the Irish National Association of Adult Education, a voluntary
membership organisation, which promotes the importance of adult and
community education as a key part of lifelong learning.
UCC events are as follows:
Monday, 22 January, 8pm, Boole II Lecture Theatre
Lecture titled "The Humour of Cork City" by Billa O'Connell, Cork's
best known and much loved comedian followed by a Q & A session.
Tuesday, 23 January, 7-8.30pm, Boole III Lecture Theatre
Stress Management Workshop by Stress Management Consultant, Therese
Ryan followed by a Q & A session. The Workshop will focus on:
- Increasing one's personal awareness and knowledge about stress
- Understanding the benefits of stress management
- How to maintain a positive proactive healthy life that combats stress
- Ways to Implement/Learn effective stress management tools/techniques
Therese Ryan currently features on the TV programme 'How Long will
you Live?' airing on RTE 1 at 8.30 pm for the month of January.
Wednesday, 24 January, 7-8.30pm, Boole II Lecture Theatre
Lecture titled "Adulthood as School: The Unique Insights and Challenges
for Adult Professionals" by Dr Jim Walsh, Director of the Executive MBA
Programme and Lecturer in Management, UCC followed by a Q & A
session.
Thursday, 25 January, 7-8.30pm, Boole II Lecture Theatre
Adult Learning: An Introduction to the Centre for Adult Continuing
Education's Short Courses, Evening and Night time Certificate and
Diploma Courses (2007-2008) by Professor Máirtín O'Fathaigh,
Director of the Centre for Adult Continuing Education, UCC. Also
present will be the Mature Student Officer(s) and Cork City
Partnership. This talk will be followed by a Q & A session.
Friday, 26 January, 7-8pm, Boole II Lecture Theatre
Lecture titled "Science and Religion" by Professor William Reville,
Department of Biochemistry, UCC and weekly columnist with The Irish
Times followed by a Q & A session.
Admission to all events is free and members of the public are invited to attend.
