09.08.2007

Lewis Glucksman Gallery celebrates 200,000 visitors with the announcement of more tours.

On Tuesday August 7, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery welcomed its 200,000th visitor since opening in October 2004. This milestone achievement was honoured with a presentation to the Mcinerey/Finucane family and the announcement of more guided tours for the public.

Pat McInerney, Maria Finucane and Olywn McInerney from Tulla in Co.Clare became the 200,000th visitors to the gallery. The family celebrated with a gift of free annual membership to the Lewis Glucksman Gallery. The presentation was made all the more special courtesy of Vevue Clicquot, who presented the Co.Clare family with a bottle of champagne to start the celebrations.

The Gallery has become an integral part of the University campus and continues to reinforce the UCC ideal of greater access and even closer ties with the people of city and the region it serves. Earlier this year, the Gallery undertook a market research survey to identify their visitors, as part of an audience development plan. In excess of 500 visitors were surveyed during their visit to the gallery. The survey revealed that the gallery continues to be supported by its local community. 72% of respondents were Irish and 53% were Irish and resident in Cork. Int erms of visitor experience and overwhelming 96% of visitors surveyed would reccommend the gallery to a friend and 92% would return to the gallery.

On the occasion of celebrating this landmark achievement of 200,000 visitors, Fiona Kearney, Glucksman Director, announced the provision of more guided tours for the public in response to the ever increasing visitor attendance and demand for more information concerning exhibitions. In addition to the scheduled curatorial tours, two weekly guided tours will be available to the public starting this week, at 1pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Since opening the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, it has won numerous awards and accolades. However, it is the continued support from the local Cork community and visitors that continues to make the Glucksman a major addition to the vibrant cultural life of the region and provide an international context for the viewing and appreciation of art in Ireland.
