Second Annual Environmental Research Day at University College Cork (UCC)


The Second Annual Environmental Research Day takes place on Thursday, 2 December next in UCC. The aim of the Conference is to enable researchers present and discuss their research achievements in the nine strategic areas of the Environmental Research Institute (ERI).

The ERI was created in 2000 as an umbrella institute within UCC. The Institute encompasses nine departments across four faculties and four research Centres of Excellence. It is also part of the Atlantic University Alliance, along with the University of Limerick (UL) and and National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), the aim of the ERI is excellence in environmental research and training through multi-disciplinary collaborations.

The ERI has 222 environmentally-related projects that are funded both nationally and internationally. A large portion of these projects will be presented in ERI Day 2004 either as oral or poster presentations. The 19 oral presentations will comprise of subject areas such as environmental; civil engineering, microbiology, chemistry, marine biology, law, ecotoxicology, biochemistry, sustainable energy and geology.

A great attendance is expected at the Conference from environmental scientists, engineers and all other interested parties who are keen to explore the cutting edge environmental research taking place at one of UCCs' leading Institutes.

The Conference takes place on Thursday, 2 December in Devere Hall, Student Centre, UCC, 9.30am-5.00pm.
