Considering Indirect Costs of Health Technology Advancements
Dr Brian Turner, Dept of Economics, UCC
Monday 8th December 1-2pm
Abstract
Economic evaluations/health technology assessments examine the incremental costs and incremental effectiveness of new medical technologies (drugs, medical devices, etc.). However, there are potentially other, indirect, costs that are not factored into these evaluations. This talk will examine some of these and whether these should be taken into account when deciding on the cost effectiveness of new interventions.
*What is the Bus Stop Chat?
The ISS21 SHAPE (Society, Health Equity and Political Economy) research cluster is thrilled to announce a series of Bus Stop Chats, to be held online from December 2025 to May 2026. Inspired by the UCC Bus Stop Chats, each of these informal lunch-time events involves a member of the SHAPE cluster presenting and discussing an area of their research to an interested and largely non-expert audience. The idea is to imagine we’re meeting at a bus stop, having a chat!
