Online Reading & Poetological Reflections with Poet Christian Lehnert
In association with the German Embassy and the DAAD, the UCC German Department has invited poet Christian Lehnert to read from his latest volume of poetry Cherubinischer Staub (2018) and to give an insight into his poetics revolving around nature, language, and religious mysticism.
The event will be in German and it will be live using MSTeams. Everyone is welcomed to join.

Gedichte – als Augenblicksgestalten und zugleich rhythmisch geformte Gebilde – bewegen sich am Rand der befestigten Sprachwege, streunen aus ins Dickicht oder lassen sich treiben mit dem Wind. Meine Verse antworten auf die Fremde, die mir in der Natur ebenso entgegenkommt wie in den eigenen Innenwelten. Sie sind „Nature Writing“ und „Metaphysical Poetry“ in einem Atemzug, Erkundungen der Welt, wo sie sich ins Ungesagte öffnet. Sie bilden winzige widerständige Formen in den vielfach instrumentalisierten Sprachwelten, die mich umgeben.
About Christian Lehnert
Christian Lehnert is a poet and theologian, and he currently heads the Institute for Liturgical Studies at the University of Leipzig. He is primarily a creative writer, and to date he has published eight volumes of poetry at Suhrkamp Verlag. He has been awarded the Hölty Prize for his complete lyric works in 2012, the Eichendorff-Literaturpreis in 2016, and the German Prize for Nature Writing in 2018. In addition to books on theology, cult, and prayer, he has written for renowned literary journals including the legendary journal Sinn und Form by the German Academy of Arts. Lehnert is also a librettist, and he has written the libretto for Hans Werner Henze's Phaedra(2007) that was performed at the Royal Opera House in 2018/19.
