FITU Welcomes ‘Diploma in Corporate Direction (Food Business)’ to UCC Campus

Guest speaker - Dan Mac Sweeney (former CEO of Carbery Group and former chairman of the board of Bord Bia) - addressing the participants on July 9th.

The Food Industry Training Unit UCC and ICOS Skillnet were delighted to welcome participants of the Diploma in Corporate Direction (Food Business) to UCC Campus on July 8th & 9th 2025.

Participants* immersed themselves in University life while attending their second module on ’Corporate Governance’. This module covered topics on co-operative and conventional business principles, characteristics, structures and processes as well as the role and responsibilities of directors and senior management.

Participants enjoyed learners from lecturers like Dr Bridget Carroll and John Doran from the Cork University Business School, as well as guest speakers like TJ Flanagan and James Doyle from ICOS, Ted O’Sullivan from the Centre for Co-operative Studies, UCC and Dan Mac Sweeney (former CEO of Carbery Group and former chairman of the board of Bord Bia).

* Co-operatives currently supporting this programme are: Arrabawn Tipperary Co-op, Aurivo, Bandon Co-op, Barryroe Co-op, Callan Co-op, Dairygold, Drinagh Co-op, Kerry Co-op, Lakeland Dairies, Lisavaird Co-op and Tirlán.

 

This part-time Diploma is organised by the Food Industry Training Unit (FITU), in association with the Department of Food Business and Development(Cork University Business School) and Adult Continuing Education (ACE), all based in University College Cork, and in partnership with the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS). The Diploma is Level 7 (Special Purpose) in the National Framework of Qualifications. Accreditation for the programme rests with University College Cork.
