ENTO - Ear, Nose, Throat and Oral Research Unit


The Ear, Nose, Throat and Oral (ENTO) Research Unit was established in 2019 by Professor Patrick Sheahan, Consultant Otolaryngologist (Head, Neck & Thyroid Surgeon) and Dr. Christine McCreary, Dean of the School of Dentistry. The focus of ENTO is research of Head and Neck pathology, including benign and malignant disease of the oral cavity, nose, throat, salivary glands, and thyroid gland.

Currently, the Head and Neck and Oral Service in Cork comprises of multiple different specialities split across multiple sites (South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Cork University Dental School and Hospital).  Key goals of the unit include fostering a multidisciplinary approach to research involving all key stakeholders in the region and development of collaborative links with other research institutes within UCC, other Universities and with industry/Pharma partners. The ultimate aim of ENTO is to improve Head and Neck patient outcomes by producing high quality research including clinical trial research.
