UCC Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society raise €2000 for Cork Penny Dinners
The UCC Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society, as their charity event this academic year, ran two DNA workshops during Cork Science Festival week, in aid of Cork Penny Dinners.
The schools that attended the workshops were Christ King Girls’ Secondary School and Bandon Grammar School.
The society presented a cheque for €2000 to Caitríona Twomey and Marie Piper Gregan from Cork Penny Dinners on 7th March, who were both very appreciative of the society members initiative and efforts, in raising such a substantial amount of money for such a worthy cause. Caitríona explained the importance and need for this money in helping the people of Cork. She also stated that the aim of Penny Dinners is to give everyone who calls to the centre a hot meal and some food to take away. It was clear the volunteers at Penny Dinners provide a very warm welcome for everyone and don’t judge anyone’s situation.

The Biochemistry and Biotechnology committee would like to thank everybody involved in running the workshops and for the contributions made by staff members from the School to this every worthy local charity.
